Twenty-one-year-old Jeffrey Thomas was yesterday remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court accused of breaking and entering a man’s house and stealing a laptop computer, among other items.

The mason of 209 West La Penitence pleaded not guilty to the charge of break and enter and larceny when Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson read it to him.

He denied that on September 11 at Albouystown he broke and entered the dwelling house of Letroy Grosvenor and stole a laptop computer and three cell phones, among other items, totalling $341,000 in value.

Thomas asked the magistrate to grant him bail. Meanwhile, Police Prosecutor Kevin London stated that everything except the laptop computer had been recovered.

He said that on the day in question Grosvenor secured his home and left around 8am. He said that when Grosvenor returned home some time later he discovered the items missing.

He contacted Thomas who denied knowing anything about the missing items.

He then made a report to the police station and Thomas was subsequently arrested and charged.

London informed the court that the articles were found at Thomas’s house in Middle Road, La Penitence.

The prosecutor objected to the bail application on the grounds that if released Thomas may continue to commit similar offences.

He also said that Thomas had a similar matter pending against him in Court Six.

The magistrate ordered that Thomas be remanded to prison and that the case be transferred to Court Six for October 1.
