Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday placed a 28-year-old man on a two-year bond to keep the peace when he appeared before her at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court accused of selling the same cow twice to two different persons.

According to the prosecution, on August 31 Surhendra Mahadeo of East La Penitence was solely entrusted by Sheik Rahaman with a cow valued $75,000 to keep the animal safe and return it to Rahaman, but he allegedly fraudulently converted it to his own use and benefit.

Rahaman who was present in court stated that he had bought the cow from Mahadeo under a contract and had asked him to keep it for him. He said Mahadeo had told him to collect the cow whenever he was ready.

He said that two weeks later he went to Mahadeo for the cow but was told that it had been resold. He said Mahadeo had breached their contract.

Mahadeo’s lawyer then stated that his client was willing to recompense Rahaman with the money for the cow. The money was then handed over to Rahaman.

The magistrate subsequently ordered that Mahadeo pay court costs of $10,000 and placed him on a bond to keep the peace for two years.
