Cut cable affects phone service in Region Ten

Landline and cellular service to several Region 10 communities were affected yesterday following yet another attack on the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GT&T) cables on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway.

Reports reaching Stabroek News indicated that the service was down for several hours but was back up by the afternoon.

GT&T Public Relations Officer Allison Parker confirmed the disruption yesterday in Linden central, Loo Creek, Kairuni, Kwakwani, Mahdia, Amelia’s Ward, Mabura and Ituni.

She said the cable was dug up some 10KM off of Long Creek and cut some time after 9 am yesterday. However, service was restored around 4 pm yesterday.

Parker said the matter was being investigated but it was obvious that the damage was deliberately done.

She recounted too that it was only last week that the company operationalised its cell service to Mabura.
