A 19-year-old vendor was yesterday granted $30,000 bail when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court accused of resisting arrest and assaulting a policeman.

Vincent Roberts of Lot 10 La Penitence Squatting Area entered a not-guilty plea to the charges of resisting arrest by a policeman and later assaulting him when Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson read them to him.

He denied that on September 16, he resisted arrest by Constable Outar and later unlawfully assaulted him.

Constable Outar who was present in court stated that on the day in question he was on patrol duty when he observed Roberts behaving suspiciously.

He said that he approached Roberts and told him that he was going to conduct a search on him.

He said Roberts told him not to touch him because he was a soldier.

He said that when he attempted to conduct the search, Roberts chucked him and his police radio fell out of his hand and onto the road.

Roberts then attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by Constable Outar and a prison officer.

The magistrate subsequently granted Roberts bail in the sum of $30,000 and ordered that the case be transferred to Court Two for October 22.
