GAWU elects central executive committee

The Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU) recently elected a new Central Executive Committee.

In a press release GAWU said it elected these members after it put in place a 52-member general council at its 19th Congress. Jankie Persaud was elected honorary president; Komal Chand president; Premchand Dass, first vice-president; Gaietri Baron, second vice-president; Seepaul Narine, general secretary; Derek Thakur, assistant general secretary; Rooplall Persaud, treasurer and Ramnarase Tiwari, organising secretary.

The committee members are Abrahim Nagamootoo, Bevon Sinclair, Brentnal Richards, Walter Raghoo, Parbattie Boodoo, Lucien H Pierre and Kavita Bishun. Also, Yashomatie Rampersaud and Deolatchmee Ramotar were elected trustees.

The Central Executive Committee is tasked with managing the affairs of the union between general council meetings which are held quarterly.
