The Guyana Agricultural Producers Association (GAPA) is closely monitoring the current dry spell being experienced in parts of the country, particularly its effect on farmers.

According to a release from the body, the association is interacting with farmers across the country to identify necessary interventions and other forms of support in order to provide relief to the farmers.

National Coordinator of the GAPA, Nandlall Steve Mangal, stated that a first-hand assessment of the situation was made during a series of visits to various communities along the coastland and hinterland of Guyana.

The release said that the GAPA in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and the National Agricultural Research Institute (NARI) will continue to conduct visits and offer technical and other forms of support to farmers who are affected by the present weather conditions. In the meantime the GAPA is advising farmers of its continued efforts as well as its collaboration with the relevant authorities to make necessary interventions to ensure an environment which is suitable to conduct non-traditional farming activities.
