Heritage Week activities start Monday

The National Trust of Guyana will start observations for Heritage Week with an opening ceremony on Monday at the National Museum.

According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release the celebrations are being held under the theme ‘Unlocking Lost Treasures: A Celebration of Our Heritage.’ The programme will close on Thursday with a lecture titled ‘Our Language: Our Heritage,’ by Alim Hosein, lecturer in the Department of Language and Culture Studies, School of Education and Humanities at the University of Guyana. The lecture will be hosted in the lower foyer of the Guyana National Museum. Recently Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Dr Frank Anthony told GINA that the lecture will focus primarily on indigenous languages. Heritage Week provides all Guyanese with an opportunity to relive Guyana’s rich and diverse culture.

In order to perpetuate this, the National Trust has recently started erecting markers at several historic sites providing information on their importance to the nation.
