A 27-year-old mother of four who allegedly placed cannabis in food that she was taking to her husband who is incarcerated at the Camp Street prison was granted $50,000 bail yesterday when she appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Brenda Campbell of Lot 54 Robb Street pleaded not guilty to a possession of narcotics charge before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.

The charge stated that on September 29 at the Camp Street prison, she had 10 grammes of cannabis in her possession.

Her lawyer Adrian Thompson applied for bail on the grounds that the offence was bailable.

Prosecutor Edmon Cooper stated that on the day in question Campbell had gone to the prison to take food for her husband who is currently incarcerated. He said that the cannabis was concealed in the food and was only discovered when the police made a routine check of the food.

The prosecutor said it was quite surprising that Campbell was charged with possession for narcotics, adding that it was not the true offence committed.

The magistrate subsequently granted Campbell bail in the sum of $50,000 and ordered that the case be transferred to Court Five for October 28.
