A fire destroyed the upper flat of a two storey house at Beterverwagting (BV), East Coast Demerara late yesterday afternoon.

The upper flat of the house, located at New Market Street, BV, was made of wood while the lower was concrete. Stabroek News learnt from a resident via telephone early last evening that the upper storey was completely destroyed but the concrete bottom section of the building survived the blaze.

The occupants of the house, according to the resident, had recently moved into the area and were not well known in the community. However, no one was injured during the fire which was extinguished by the Fire Service.
