The Government Pensioners Association of Guyana is celebrating its 60th anniversary with a church service and brunch on Sunday, October 18th.

In a press release the Association said observances will start at Redeemer Lutheran Church at 9am followed by brunch at the Water Chris Hotel. Former Secretary-General of UNESCO Carmen Jarvis is expected to give the feature address and long-serving members will be awarded. 

The month-long celebrations also include an anniversary concert at the Queen’s College auditorium on October 18 at 4pm. Tickets costs $300 and can be purchased from members at the door. The celebrations will wrap up with a day outing in the countryside. The Association said a booklet covering 60 years of its existence is being prepared and is expected to be ready for the celebrations.

It also said membership is open to any person employed by the government or in any state corporation, and who receives a pension from the government whether within or without the country. Among the Association’s objectives are providing advocational interests for members through lectures, socials and other means to promote their welfare and making representations to government for fair adjustments to pensions when necessary.

Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month at 4.30pm at the Postal and Telecommunication Workers Union Hall on East Street.
