Teen dies after hit by truck at Cane Grove

A 13-year-old boy died at the Georgetown Public Hospital yesterday, several hours after being hit by a truck while riding his bicycle on the Cane Grove, Mahaica public road.

Jaikarran Chaitram of Supply, Mahaica never regained consciousness after he was hit by the truck sometime after 7 pm on Saturday. At the time, he was returning home after visiting his uncle in Cane Grove, the lad’s aunt, Kaymattie Jaikarran told Stabroek News. The driver of the truck is in police custody.

Chaitram called ‘Davo’ was with three other friends and was the last in line, riding on the right side of the public road when the incident occurred.  “The truck make a dash from people on the left hand side and knock he”, Kaymattie said.

She related that the lad’s friends heard the impact and when they turned around they saw him bleeding on the ground. The truck had stopped some way off and the driver contacted his father, who took Chaitram to the hospital in his vehicle.

According to Kaymattie, her nephew sustained head injuries and his hands were broken. She stated that he never regained consciousness and after being looked after, he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the medical institution. He died sometime after 3 pm yesterday. Chaitram was the third of five children. He leaves to mourn his parents, siblings and other relatives.
