Cops vow full security for Diwali

Law enforcement officials will be out “in full force” on Friday and Saturday to provide security for Diwali activities, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) says.
It said that focal interest is being paid to the Saturday Night Diwali celebration in Alexander Village “where a serious approach will be taken towards all perpetrators of crime including throwing of explosives, squibs and general misbehaviour”.

Residents of that community have complained about having no peace in past celebrations because of such behaviour by some persons, many of whom are not from the area.

In a press release, the GPF said that ranks are expected to turn out in large numbers and will show zero tolerance towards those wishing to spoil the festivities.

It added that due to the large numbers on foot, no motor vehicles will be allowed within the immediate environs beyond 5pm on Saturday and the area will be closed to vehicular traffic.
