The Indian Arrival Committee  (IAC)   urges all Guyanese  to pay heed to the  important messages of  Diwali and to resist evil  in all its forms.

The IAC is also calling  on Guyanese to work together co-operatively and harmoniously for the economic  development and growth of Guyana and for national unity.

Extending greetings to all Guyanese, especially those who follow the philosophical teachings of Hinduism, on the occasion of the festival of lights, the IAC noted two themes which  characterize the celebration of the festival of Diwali.

The first deals with the triumph of good over evil  as told by the story of the destruction of Ravan, the king of Lanka by Shri Rama which is recorded in the  Ramayana.

And the second theme deals with the creation of  wealth and attainment of prosperity which devotees feel will be bestowed on them by their veneration of Lakshmi Mata or the mother Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity.
