Labourer charged with wounding Charity man

A 37-year-old labourer accused of unlawfully and maliciously wounding another was yesterday placed on $75,000 bail when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

It is alleged that on October 3 at Essequibo, Abdool Rasheed of Charity Housing Scheme unlawfully and maliciously wounded Eustace Alphonso with intent to maim, disfigure or cause grievous bodily harm to the said Eustace Alphonso.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge of felonious wounding when it was read to him by the Acting Chief Magistrate.

The attorney who represented the defendant told the court that the virtual complainant (VC) was attempting to chop the defendant’s sister when he, [the defendant] intervened in a bid to represent his sister.
The lawyer however said that further details would be given at the time of the trial.
The VC was not in court.

Rasheed was subsequently placed on $75,000 bail. His matter was transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court for January 12 for statements.
