A fire early this morning razed four Regent Street stores, the second such conflagration in ten days to hit businesses in the commercial district.
The origin of the inferno is unclear. Destroyed are Household Plus, Fullworths General Store, Chino’s Variety Store, and Wireless Connections, all located in three buildings between Cummings Street and Orange Walk, Bourda. The Fire Service was notified at about 3:45 am, Fire Chief Marlon Gentle told reporters.

The blaze started at Household Plus and by the time the Fire Service arrived, that building was fully engulfed and the servicemen focused on containing the flames at the other sites, he said. Firemen battled the inferno for over two hours before it was brought under control. Up to 9 this morning, they were quelling the remaining flames. Dozens of persons are believed to be out of work while millions of dollars in stock have been lost.

The fire follows another on October 9, which raced through Regent Street between Light and Albert streets, destroying three buildings and severely damaging another.
