A teenager was yesterday remanded to prison after appearing at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court, charged with having carnal knowledge of a 14-year-old girl.

Haresh Persaud called Mark, 19, of 174 Parafield, Leonora, West Coast Demerara was not required to plead to the indictable charge of having carnal knowledge of a girl under 15 years and was remanded to prison by Magistrate Fazil Azeez.

It is alleged that last Saturday at Leonora he had carnal knowledge of the minor, who is 14 years old. The matter was reported and following police investigations, he was arrested and charged.

Attorney-at-law Subas Ganesh entered an appearance for the teen and told the court that his client works at the Uitvlugt sugar estate and lives with his parents.

Persaud was remanded until October 30, when the matter will be called at the Leonora Court for report.
