Law enforcement officials returned to the North Section, Canal Number Two, West Bank Demerara home of Bisram to continue their investigations but have reportedly so far been unable to identify a suspect. A post-mortem examination is expected to be done today and a relative said that the body will then be taken to the United States for a funeral.

Bisram, a former vice-chairman of the Essequibo Islands/West Demerara region was on Monday found dead at his home, with several stab wounds about his body including to his abdomen and face.

The discovery was made at around 4.30pm that day by his brother-in-law, Walter. The body was naked and lying on the floor of his bedroom. It was surrounded by pools of blood. A blood-stained kitchen knife was found next to the body.

Bisram also appeared to have been robbed. A relative had told this newspaper that two rings he usually wore were missing while a suitcase was found open, close to his body. A police source had told Stabroek News that the four-bedroom home, otherwise, did not appear to have been ransacked.

The former regional official was retired and lived alone. His wife and children reside overseas. He had served as regional vice-chairman from 1992 to 2006 before retiring.
