A thirty-six-year-old cane-cutter of West Ruimveldt Housing Scheme who has been charged with felonious wounding was remanded to prison when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

James Winslow Davis initially pleaded guilty to the charge but the magistrate entered a not guilty plea for him after hearing his account of the incident.

It is alleged  that on October 26, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded 15-year-old Dexter Forde with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause him grievous bodily harm.

The case was transferred to Court Three for November 19.

Davis explained that on the day in question “he (Forde) deh troubling me and he pelt me wid a iron but me nah go fuh chop he, we jus had a lil scuffle and de cutlass catch he head.”

However, Forde, who exhibited a swollen left eye and a wound that had several stitches on the left side of his forehead, stated that he and Davis indeed had a scuffle that resulted in the accused chopping him to his head with the cutlass.

He said that he had received about 40 stitches to the wound.
