King Pele for Kashif and Shanghai opening

Director of the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation, Kashif Muhammad, last evening announced that one of the world’s greatest football players, ‘King’ Pele, will be in Guyana for the opening of their 20th Kashif and Shanghai Football tournament at the National Stadium Providence on December 13th.

The announcement was made at the Duke Lodge when the organisation launched its annual football extravaganza and with the room being filled with football enthusiasts and government officials, rapturous applause erupted.

Edison Arantes do Nascimento, known more popularly to the rest of the world as Pele, is Brazil’s national treasure and is also a football ambassador for the world governing body FIFA and this Muhammad mentioned is by far one of the biggest achievements in their lives.

To have the world’s greatest ever football player in Guyana for the celebration of two decades of the country’s best teams coming together was described as a dream come true.

While in Guyana on his two-day visit, Pele is expected to pay a courtesy call on the Government of Guyana and it was hinted that special attention will be accorded to the team which adopted the name Pele and is ironically the defending champion of the Kashif and Shanghai tournament.

Pele is the all-time leading scorer of the Brazil national football team and is the only footballer to be a part of three World Cup-winning teams (1958, 1962 and 1977).
