Couple held for Gizmos hold-up

Two persons have been arrested by police for the armed robbery at Gizmos and Gadgets at Regent Street on Tuesday and they were up to last evening assisting with investigations.

Police said in a release yesterday that a man and a woman were held between Thursday night and yesterday morning.

Around 2pm on the day of the incident, five persons including two women, launched the attack on the store during which two employees were tied up before escaping with an undisclosed number of mobile phones and some $136,000 in cash belonging to the store. They also made off with three mobile phones, a pair of sun glasses and $10,000 in cash, belonging to the employees.

From all accounts, two women went to the MoneyGram to conduct business but left after there was some invalid information on the form. They later returned asking for prices of several items on display including mobile phones and car/audio equipment. The two women were later joined by three men who held up the two employees.
