Man pulled from submerged vehicle hospitalised

A 30-year-old man is in the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital after being involved in an accident on Saturday night.

Davendra Jettoo is in a stable condition, relatives said yesterday. While stating that there was not much information they could provide, his mother said that he has regained consciousness. According to reports sometime after 9 pm on Saturday, Jettoo’s pick-up collided with a taxi at the junction of Church and Cummings streets. There were three men in the car while Jettoo was alone in his vehicle, this newspaper was told.

Jettoo was driving along Church Street and following the collision, ended up in the canal. At least 15 minutes elapsed before he was rescued from the partly-submerged vehicle by a passer-by. He sustained some head injuries and was rushed to the medical institution following the accident in an unconscious state. A number of relatives were present at the hospital yesterday to visit the injured man. Police are investigating the incident.
