It is alleged that Chandrika Persaud had carnal knowledge of a 14-year-old girl between October 31 and November 2.

In his bail application for his client, Attorney-at-Law Sase Gunraj told the magistrate that his client has no previous convictions and is not a flight risk. He said that his client is a young, single, lonely man who was looking for a companion and did not know the girl was a minor since she looked older than her age. Gunraj further said that the girl told his client that she was 16.

The matter was called to the bench and a discussion between Persaud’s lawyer, the prosecutor and the magistrate ensued.

Persuad’s bail application was denied and his matter was transferred to Court Six for December 1.
