A 31-year-old re-mand prisoner, who said that he had escaped from the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court lock-ups to go home for Christmas, was yesterday ordered to pay a fine of $20,000 and serve two years imprisonment when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.

Randy Samuels, who is a remand prisoner on a simple larceny charge, yesterday pleaded guilty to another simple larceny charge and an escape from lawful custody charge.

He admitted that on November 9, while being in lawful custody at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court lock-ups, he escaped.
He also admitted that on the same day he stole two pairs of jeans valued $7,000, property of Joylyn Moore.

Samuels, who appeared distressed, told the court, “I in prison long, long and I ain’t never get bail fuh de other matter so I get away to  spend de Christmas at home.”

He also stated that he is currently a patient at the Observation Ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Prosecutor Kevin London stated that on the day that Samuels escaped he was scheduled to make an appearance  in Court Five on a simple larceny matter.
