A 75-year-old woman and her 44-year-old daughter – who has lost both of her legs to diabetes – were both badly chopped yesterday about their bodies allegedly by the daughter’s irate reputed husband.

Nicola McDonald aka ‘Zeeta’ and her mother Sheila Govia were both listed as being in stable condition at the Georgetown Hospital. Meanwhile, the man, Leroy Joseph has been taken into custody at the Cove and John Police Station.

A relative with whom this newspaper spoke related that McDonald has been living in a very abusive relationship with the man for some five years now.

Joseph was said to be a heavy drinker and would usually become abusive whenever he is under the influence of alcohol. At about 12:15 yesterday, McDonald’s daughter Odessa said that she was summoned by an aunt who informed her that her stepfather had gone to their 428 Victoria East Coast Demerara home and unleashed an attack on the woman.

She said that her grandmother who intervened in an attempt to save her daughter was also dealt several chops about the body.
According to Odessa, her mother is a diabetic and has been living as an amputee as a result of this medical condition for the past four to five years now. She added that the two have no children together and that the man is unemployed.

McDonald’s right thumb was chopped off. She also sustained chops to her back, both hands and about the body. Meanwhile, her mother was chopped to the face, hands, feet and about the body.
