A taxi driver was stabbed to the neck and robbed of a cellular phone and $6000 on the Crane Access Road by two men who posed as passengers.

The incident, according to a police press release issued last evening, occurred at about 12.55pm yesterday at the West Coast Demerara location. Jairam Jaiman, of Hague, was hired by his two attackers at Vreed-en-Hoop. The men were armed with a hand gun and ice pick.

Investigations, police said, revealed that the two men told Jaiman they were headed to the Crane Housing Scheme. While travelling along the Crane Access Road the men held up Jaiman who was stabbed to his neck during a scuffle with them.

The armed men relieved Jaiman of the mobile phone and cash then made efforts to place him in the trunk of the vehicle, but he managed to raise an alarm, alerting residents who rushed to help.

Jaiman’s attackers then attempted to escape in the motor car but had to abandon the vehicle after it suffered a puncture while travelling along the road. They escaped on foot.
Jaiman, police reported, was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he was treated and sent away.
