Tourism ministry, GTA host beautification exercise at seawall bandstand

The exercise was held as part of the roster of activities planned for Tourism Awareness Month which is being celebrated under the theme ‘Promoting Quality and Sustainable Tourism in Guyana’. According to a Government Information Agency (GINA) press release staff from the ministry and the GTA repainted the bandstand, put up anti-littering signs, tourism aids and planted a number of trees.

Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Manniram Prashad said since the country’s tourism product is being promoted along with the Low Carbon Development Strategy foreigners will visit Guyana. “We want to make sure that we have a clean environment. We know that thousands of people use this seawall facility daily, especially the bandstand area,” he said. The ministry will continue to play an active role in ensuring the city remains clean.

GINA said other stakeholders who contributed to the success of the exercise are Penta Paints, the Mayor and City Council, the National Parks Commission and National Exhibition Centre.
