The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development has signed two contracts for the construction of market tarmacs at Patentia and Charity.

Permanent Secretary at the ministry, Seewchan said the tarmacs will be a platform from which vendors can ply their trade instead of the country’s roadways. He said the contracts were awarded through “the competitive process” and will be closely evaluated by the ministry’s engineers. Seewchan also urged the contractors to ensure that they expedite the projects.

The tarmac at Patentia, Region Three will be built over a three-month period at a cost of $13,957,130. It will measure 2220 sq metres. The one at Charity, Region Two will also be done over a three-month period at a cost of $21,700,965. It will measure 2500 sq metres.

GINA said the ministry signed contracts for the construction of market tarmacs at Enmore, De Willem and Best/Pouderoyen early in October. “All of the awarded contracts have a liquidated damages clause of one percent of the final contract price per day,” GINA said.
