Cops in Queenstown search for guns

Two vanloads of policemen last night swooped on a house in Queenstown and launched a search for guns and ammunition.

When Stabroek News visited the Lot 257 Forshaw Street, Queenstown address several of the occupants of the building, many of them children, were seen sitting on the fence of the yard while others sat on the veranda. Several police officers were seen in front of the house while others were in the house.

A female occupant of the house told Stabroek News that she was not at home when the lawmen arrived but when she turned up at around 8pm she was informed that the police were searching for about an hour prior to her arrival.

The woman said her daughter related that the police indicated they were at the house to search for guns and ammunition. She said three families share the building, one at the top, another at the bottom and the other at the back. She said many small children live in the building.

The woman said she does not understand why the police are searching the building as according to her none of the occupants have had any trouble with the law.  However, she did acknowledge that a while back members of the joint services had searched the house but they found nothing.

The female occupant was upset that she was initially informed she could not enter the yard but she was later allowed to enter when the lawmen were ready to search her home.

Up to press time the police were still searching.
