Intruder shot in leg by police

An intruder in a Republic Park home was shot in the leg by the police yesterday as he was being chased.

According to the police, the man had entered the home of Norbert de Freitas who saw him and raised the alarm.

The would-be burglar ran out of the building pursued by a number of residents and an armed mobile police patrol which was in the area. The police said that “during efforts to arrest him” he was shot in his right leg by one of the ranks.

He was treated at the public hospital and discharged into police custody.
