Labourer shot in head by foreman

Anthony Bacchus of Tuschen Housing Scheme underwent operation to remove two pellets from the back of his head. He is now a patient of the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Male Surgical Ward.

Relating how he was shot, Bacchus said that he along with his foreman and others were at a farm in Yarrowakabra, on the Linden-Soesdyke highway where they were drinking. He said that after drinking he went into the camp’s kitchen and was changing when the foreman came up behind him. He said the man “gaff with me good good” and the next thing he knew, the foreman had pulled the gun and shot him in the head.

Bascchus, who has been working on the farm for about three months now, said he did not have any issues with the foreman and is not sure why he was shot. He said that the foreman was carrying around the gun, which was unlicensed, unknown to the owner of the farm.

Meanwhile, the owner of the farm said he rents it and plants a variety of crops as well as rears chicken. He related that he would visit the farm intermittently.

When asked if he knew about the gun his foreman possessed he said he was unaware and was not sure if the weapon was licensed.
