Corentyne businesswoman robbed by bandits

A Corentyne businesswoman is the latest victim of a spate of recent bandit attacks in Berbice.

Two men, armed with handguns, entered the Wellington Park, Corentyne home of 48-year-old businesswoman Melena Nathoo at about 6:45 pm on Saturday, police said. Nathoo and her mother, Dhanmattie Nathoo, 69, were home at the time and they were robbed of over $1.3M.

Investigations revealed that the two women were at home when the armed men entered through an open doorway and held them at gunpoint. They then took away a total of $1.3M, US$400, a lap top computer and four cell phones and escaped, a police statement said.
