The police have detained a member of community policing group who allegedly raped a teenage girl while she was in custody at the Springlands Police Station as well as two lawmen who reportedly tried to entice the girl to have sex with them.

The Guyana Police Force’s Office of Professional Responsibility is investigating “the alleged carnal knowledge committed on a female juvenile on October 21, 2009, by a member of a Community Policing Group while she was in custody at the Springlands Police Station,” the police said in a statement yesterday.

According to the statement, the juvenile was arrested and placed in custody for wandering. She later alleged that on October 21, while on a bench in the Enquiries Office at the Station, she was induced by two Police Constables, one after the other, who tried to entice her into having sex. She claimed that the inducements occurred at the Traffic Office and the Domestic Violence Office at the station. However, she managed to get free and returned to the Enquiries Office, the police said.

The statement went on to say that the girl further alleged that later that night she was approached by a male juvenile, who had allegedly gone to the station while patrolling with the Community Policing Group, and he enticed her into the Witness Room where he had sex with her against her will.

The police said the girl never reported the incidents to anyone until she was subsequently arrested on Monday again for wandering, and appeared at the Springlands Magistrate Court the following day, when she complained to the Magistrate.

The two constables and the community policing group member have since been arrested and are in custody pending further investigations, the police said.
