Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson on Friday ordered that a man pay a fine of $30,000 after he admitted to attempting to obtain a second passport by telling an immigration officer he had never applied for one before.

Steven Reginald entered a guilty plea to the charge of making a false declaration for the purpose of procuring a passport when he appeared before the Magistrate at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Reginald admitted that on December 3 at the Central Immigration and Passport Office, he attempted to procure a passport by telling an immigration officer that he had never applied for one before, when he knew this to be false.

Prosecutor Stephen Telford stated that on the day of the incident Reginald had gone to the Passport Office to obtain a passport. He said that Reginald had filled out the passport form stating that he never applied for a passport before.

Telford noted that it was only during investigations into this that the immigration officer discovered this to be false.
