Elderly Lusignan woman found dead on roadway

-may have collapsed while confronting cow thief

An elderly woman was yesterday morning found dead on the roadway in front of her Lusignan, East Coast Demerara residence and there are suspicions that she collapsed while confronting someone who was attempting to steal her cow.
Police said yesterday that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 79-year-old Rajkumarie Mahadeo who was discovered dead around 5:30 am. Investigators are awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination.

A relative when contacted told Stabroek News that the woman rears cows and there is evidence that suggests that someone was attempting to steal one of the animals. He said that it is believed that the woman confronted the perpetrator and later collapsed. He said that the police did not find any marks of violence on the body and said that he did not want to say anything further until they have the post-mortem results.

The cow with its legs tied together was found nearby.
