Berbice Chamber elects new executive

The Berbice Chamber of Commerce and Development Association elected a new executive committee to oversee and manage its operations for 2009/2010 at its AGM held on June 4.

In a press release the group said Gyandat Marray was elected president; Shri Khirodhar, senior vice-president; Elwin Jones, junior vice-president, Imran Sacoor, secretary; Joel McPherson, treasurer; Avia Lindie, assistant secretary/treasurer and Ramesh Maraj, public relations officer.

Representatives from 15 entities were elected to serve on the Council including the commercial banks, insurance companies, beverage companies and several private sector businesses. In his address Marray said much more involvement is needed from the business community to ensure the chamber’s goals are met. He called on members to continue to support the group and invited past members to return to assist with the Chamber’s activities.

Meanwhile, Maraj, the outgoing president in his address to members said the chamber had been serving the community for more than 77 years. He also pledged his continued commitment.
