This analysis is insightful and speaks to a weakness in the psyche of our(Caribbean ) people which also affects the vision of our leadership. For Economic reasons we are willing to compromise "our kith and kin" sell our birthright for immediate and short term gains. This attitude goes right back to slavery and reared its head during the Haiti Revolution, the failed Federation and now threatens CARICOM!

Why can our leaders not lead by pointing our people to the need to sacrifice our insularity for the good of a single economic, political, geographic space for all Caribbean people. Barbados by its new attitude to illegal Guyanese should be singled out in the same breadth as introducing another more damaging parallel of ALBA. What is wrong with CARICOM aiming to establish the world's largest (DFZ) Duty Free Zone in Guyana for instance where there is space and natural resources but we need the infrastructure(policy, finance, management etc) and political will? Such a zone should attract nationals from all member states to live and work without prejudice and fear of being profiled. That zone should be seen as serving all states of the Caribbean. Our leaders need to tap the Global marketplaces (including the Caribbean)for investment capital for a project that can signal the readiness to lay the first building block of a single State of the Caribbean. No longer should we seen as small disoriented people looking for handouts from the most willing donor who will give us a few pennies to undermine and stall our collective agreements at the expense of our future independence and the development of our collective islands into a single viable state.

SN, your editorial said this:"Dominica will find that to all intents and purposes she has surrendered her sovereignty and her independence," by being a part of ALBA. On the other side now Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer of Antigua a member of ALBA says; " The support"(obviously from ALBA)"did not come at the price of our dignity or sovereignty but was firmly rooted in the principles of complementary, solidarity, cooperation and respect for SOVEREIGNTY.I guess in your estimation SN both Antigua and Dominica are being used by the erratic Mr Chavez.
