It is with deep, deep sympathy that the Belize Kriol (Creole) Project and the National Kriol Council of Belize say farewell to Professor Allsopp. He was our Caribbean linguistic leader and his hallmark work, the Dictionary of Caribbean English Usage, has been and continues to provide the Belize Kriol language movement with invaluable insights and direction. We will be eternally grateful for the seeds he planted and the concrete evidence that our wonderful Caribbean Creole languages have validity. Belize Kriol is one type of Caribbean Creole language, and we in Belize mourn Professor Allsopp's passing even as we explode with gratitude that, in large part because of him, "aal a wi weh taak wahn Kriol langwij lov wiself. Gaad bles yu faamli, Profesa Allsopp."Note, too, that Belize's Governor General Sir Colville Young is a key member of the Belize Kriol Project and the National Kriol Council and he, too, mourns with us.
