The Guyana Chess Federation will feature the Sasha Cells chess tournament beginning next Sunday at the Kei-Shar’s Sports Club. The tournament is an eight-round swiss system event with traditional time controls set at one hour, fifteen minutes per player, per game.

Unlike the rapid tournament which was held two weeks ago at the YMCA with fifteen minutes per player, per game, the Sasha tournament is programmed to allow players more thinking time so that they are in a position to make the best moves possible – or, as close to the best as possible.

The finest chess players in Guyana are expected to be attracted to this format since it offers a realistic assessment of the strength of participants. The time allotment is similar to that which is used for the National Championships, and therefore is expected to be a true test of players’ abilities.
