Caricom began (picking up where the WI Federation left off) with fanfare and projections etc. for making the Caribbean a world power or at least a bloc of countries self sufficient and united in their stance and demands for recognition by the super powers. It seems to have sadly morphed into what the UN has become!! What next!!!!! Can I ‘third’ the motion?

Comparisons aside, I think by the end of her column Alissa answered her own initial question regarding the lack of media interest across the caribbean in what was decided at the HOG meeting. Another taskforce, more talk scheduled, no action in sight - what's to report? Every Guyanese leadership aspirant should also read the article and appreciate that Caricom's failure represents on a larger scale the failure of more than a generation of local politicians to decisively put Guyana's interests before shallow personal ambition. We truly need some heroes, at all levels, to break the cycle of nonsense. Every Caricom “leader” should read this article and, one hopes, feel the pain and frustration many share with the writer.
