I, like many other Guyanese living in Guyana and Abroad will like to extend our condolence to the government and people of Guyana.

The Late Dr Jagan and Mrs Jagan (Mother and Father of Civilised Guyanese) has given their lives for the People of Guyana. There is no other president like these two Human Beings. I am proud to revisit Guyana, thanks to these two past presidents. We are currently living the legacy set by these two soldiers, JUST IMAGINE WHAT WILL GUYANA LOOK LIKE TODAY IF IT WASNT FOR THE JAGANS?

Now, the late former President Janet Jagan may have been many things that some of us don’t like as far as her politics go, but this is not the time and place to vent about that or to air negative things about her. Those who write history will write about the good, the bad and the ugly in due course. We had a lengthy conversations last week in these very pages about late Pres. Hoyte along similar lines and I believe that most of us agree that we are all Guyanese when all is said and done.

Janet Jagan may not have been born in Guyana, but she was Guyanese. She made a choice and she picked us and then stayed while many left for greener pastures.

She fought for Guyana’s independence. She was a MP, a former First Lady, a former President, a Wife, A Mother, a Grandmother and also one of us. She deserves our respect.

A few days ago I made a similar comment relative to the passing of a PNC activist. My comment was in response to the derogatory and snide comments made by Confessed “PPP supporters”. It now seems so ironic that Mrs. Jagan has passed and the shoe is on the other foot.
I will now quote from the works of J.J. Ingalls: “In the democracy of the dead all men (women) are at last equal. There is neither rank nor station nor prerogative in the republic of the grave!”
Mrs. Jagan earned the right to be eulogised and mourned by the nation for whatever each national sees in her contribution to the nation. So let it be! “The rest is silence.” (Shakespeare)

I extend my deepest sympathies and condolences to the family of former President Janet Jagan on her passing. Guyana has lost its founding mother.
She transformed the nation, serving with distinction and selfless dedication. She has lived an extraordinary life that is an inspiration for us as we move forward into the future she has made possible. My memory of her will forever remain her kindness when she reached out to me in the early days of Kaieteur News. I talked with her at Mirror newspaper, seeking her experience as a Journalist and newspaper publisher, to be able to start a successful new national newspaper as a very young man. She was ready and willing to offer words of encouragement and advice. The Kaieteur project was possible because she had worked so hard to open Guyana to the possibility of freedom of expression and economic democracy, where a young man from the new generation could dream and reach for the stars. Without Janet Jagan would Guyana ever have escaped its darkness? Would my generation ever been able to do new and exciting things? May her dream for Guyana live on and really become real.
Her contribution, not only to Guyana but to the world through her strong stand for a democratic and free nation, will forever live in the national psyche.
Her stand for decent governance is legendary. A great Guyanese has passed away, and the nation mourns while remembering her amazing grace on the national stage.

You may know a lot an you can explain why my uncle who was a member of the then PYO had to run from this organization….. since you are so open about the dead can you not talk about the living. I have a right to vent my concern because my uncle lift sugar bag in his active years in the PPP and that party was only for a certain few….

A house lot for a $1.00 don’t mean that the PPP care look at poverty in the Indian community. The reason for this its because our women were encourage to leav school too early and place in the kitchen for what….can you address the plight of the poor Indians living choosing drugs as an alternative to successful living yasuman71.

In life people have differences, quarrels, adversaries, enemies, etc. However, when someone passes away all those differences are set aside at least momentarily and due respect is shown to the deceased. It’s simply a matter of common courtesy, decency and honour. Some of the comments in yesterday’s Stabroek News on Janet Jagan’s death violated tradition and sickened me. In this moment of mourning, some bloggers chose to vent their gripe and bad feelings against Mrs Jagan, betraying ill breeding, bad manners or mindless hate. Shame on you; you know who you are.
In 1985 when Forbes Burnham died I was an activist of his opposition PPP. I did not gloat, criticize, condemn or dance during the period of mourning. In 1987 when Burnham’s embalmed body returned from the Soviet Union and was available for public viewing I visited the mausoleum in the Botanical Gardens and paid him suitable respect. I did not have to seek permission from my party to do that. It was just the right thing to do. In the 1960s the USA tried its darnedest to remove the Jagans from office. Today the USA has issued an official statement with very kind words about Janet Jagan. Let those narrow-minded writers of comments in this newspaper take note.

I am saddened at the passing of former President Janet Jagan. I will eternally be grateful to her and her husband for implementing secondary education in the rural areas of Guyana in 1962. I am one of its beneficiaries whose parents did not believe in educating their female children. I left Guyana in 1969 and later gained an advance degree in nursing.
