Did not write letter

Dear Editor,
I received a call from Steve Merai in reference to a letter written in your newspaper (‘Steve Merai took head on the most dangerous, ruthless criminals’ Sunday Stabroek 4.1.09). I told him I did not do so. I went to your website and saw what was happening. You have no right to publish any data without my signature.

I have no need to write anything about Steve anyway. Please correct your mistake. I will contact a Guyanese lawyer to help with this offensive problem.
Yours faithfully,
Peter Merai

Editor’s note
The letter about Steve Merai came in the form of a comment which was posted on our website, and we had no reason to believe it was not genuine.
The IP addresses both on this letter and the one published in our edition of January 4 are the same.

trying to distance himself from the letter too late ..the facts are there for all to see.

  3. M. Xiu Quan-Balgobind-Hackett UNITED KINGDOM says:

Well, then, SN STOP publishing blogs and blahgs as letters! It is very unwise…and that’s putting it very mildly…without use of very strong ad(inv/j)ectives.

  4. rambler GUYANA says:

I don’t see the problem… if you’re willing to comment here and have thousands read your opinion then you should have no problem it being published locally.
Or is it that this guy wanted to sway opinion in the diaspora who are less likely to know about Steve Merai’s reputation?
Mr Editor, keep publishing comments, they are often far more interesting than the long diatribes about the PNC.

  5. rambler GUYANA says:

perhaps in your explanation of the comments section you should put SN reserves the right to publish comments as letters in its newspaper edition.

What’s this guy’s (Peter) gripe? What is the difference in what he wrote then to what was published now? Did SN alter anything? Your blog is SN’s right otherwise do not blahg!!!

IF U ENT UNDERSTAND THEN SAY SO…

Oops!! Someone stuck their toe on the train track. Ouch!!

    • evileyes CANADA says:

      John Smith
….if de man didnt wrote the letter to the letter column then it should not have been in the letter column…he just blogged…and thats where his blog should have been…

    • John Smith GUYANA says:

      Evil,
The information was disseminated online and the meat of the matter is the info was presented to all and sundry. Whether it was in the form of a letter or a blog the sender wanted all to read it and so we have done. His brother would have read/heard about it in one way or the other so he should not have posted in the first place. SN should not have posted it as a letter because it did not come beginning with, Dear Editor and I agree with you on that.

  10. indian BARBADOS says:

Seems that Merai ( he knows the truth) got cold feet since the letter was painting him as an angel that he is not!
I hope he is feeling some remorse for the things he did out of a fierce desire to please his bosses! Not too late to turn the page- but a public apology for his excesses must be included.
