Dear Editor,

Many local politicians have been in full praise of President Obama and his historic victory.  Let me state categorically that they have not learnt a single lesson from him, nor do they intend to. Mr Obama did not win the American elections by feeding upon white guilt. Nor did he win by reminding blacks that “massa day done” and that they were no longer house slaves.  Further, after winning he did not stock his cabinet with individuals whose main criterion was their inability to stand up to him.  Finally, a few days ago, Mr Obama had his first major misstep and he admitted it, in none too delicate words.  When last did we hear any politician from any party mouth the words, “I was wrong.”  Or even, “I could have done things a little differently.”

So let’s put an end to the hypocrisy of our local autocrats.  There should be a moratorium on the Obama references and comparisons.  Let us at least be honest enough to admit to our own pettiness while we pursue the politics of tit-for-tat and zero-sum gain.

Yours faithfully,
Robin Bhimal

you should direct your letter to the PNCR…tell them about Obama..PNCR could take a page out of Obama’s book…

Most PNC supporters are only concerned that Mr, Obama is of African Desent and that’s all that matters to them..

eastbanner. Not just PNC supporters, but Guyanese as a whole, see Obama as the Leader they will like to have. There is a VOID in true, intelligent leadership in Guyana. What do you expect, with the foolishness and madness that’s taking place in Guyana. Give the Guyanese people a pat on the shoulder for recognising A TRUE LEADER. Every one likes to have a HERO. THEIR “LEADERS” HAVE LET THEM DOWN. OBAMA IS THEIR HERO.

obama’s first misstep? where you living? you look at CNN and FOX NEWS? what about Tlm Gaietner, his treasury secretary who conviently forgot to pay $34,000 in taxes? what about Nancy Killefer who he was trying to get appointed? she also forgot to pay some taxes. what about he association with to ACORN? this organization that was registering non-existent voters for him. they are now before the courts. he only went on tv to apologise because Tom Daschele got caught.

All foreigners arguing about Obama. What a joke. They know nothing about US policies. These folks come from Canada, the 51state in America and the US whipping boy, and the United Kingdom, Regans poodle, and a country which America soundly defeated, albeit thrashed, some time after 1776.

Let me add my piece here .
African americans vote for obama cause he Black .In guyana , Afro guyanese wants a black president and /or government & Indo guyanese wants an Indian president and /or government. Very simple ,you don’t need to know american politics or policies nor Guyana’s to understand that this is the reality behind the politics of both countries. The end .

These comments completely ignore the letter. The writer is very careful to attack all parties in Guyana yet that point seemed to have been missed by these very partisan comments. Obviously the people writing here do not have enough coherence to compose a simple letter, so this is their only form of attack – a 1 or 2 line exchange that is nonsensical and unfunny. I think Stabroek should remove this feature from its web-site. Oh, and Obama did not get caught with Tom Daschle. If so, then he also caught with Geithner so why didnt he resign. And the war of 1812 was fought between the US and Britain – Canada did not exist at the time. Time to turn off Fox News and pick up a book.

Hmm. A judge. I see.I did not hear about you qualifying as a judge of any sort on this web.Self appointed. That’s okay then.Because words coming from one like you do not mean a thing.
