Dear Editor,

When someone actively opposes a dictatorship and that someone is shot by an agent of the dictatorship and hovers between life and death for a while but survives, he cannot be the same again. He either becomes frightened and pulls into his shell or becomes more determined. In the case of Joshua Ramsammy be became determined.

Dr Joshua Ramsammy was fiercely anti-dictator and fiercely pro-people. He and I spoke on the same platform at several public meetings.

Joshua Ramsammy the biologist was internationally recognized and Joshua Ramsammy the politician was respected throughout the Caribbean. His contribution to make this world a better and safer place cannot be forgotten.

To his family I offer my sympathy.
