Dear Editor,
Allow me through your newspaper to offer my sympathy to Yuri Chandisingh and his mother on the death of Ranji Chandisingh.
I knew Ranji since he was active in the PPP in the early sixties before the ’61 election. I remember when Yuri was born and I asked Ranji the name of the baby, and he told me he was called after the first Russian in space, Yuri Gagarin.
Ranji Chandisingh contributed to the development of Guyana; he served in both political parties in government and did very well.
Yours faithfully,
W.P. George

very good , let’s fawn more and put up a statue
can you name some of the contributions? he helped to breakdown the country more than he contributed, by joining a dictatorship.
You go Quibian, I agree with you. In what way he contributed by the way, Guyana is still a broken down country. Thanks to the Leaders, past and present.
sweetgeorga peach..
Are you an individual living in this century, or way back in Jack the Ripper times? The winner is the biggest loser here.Like, we are motivated by what we do not have. How can someone contribute, when they were a part of a purposefully designed act of decades of non contribution? Explicably, advancing from wholesale destruction to a confounding bankruptcy? While selling a lie sheet called NEW NATION, claiming “Guyana is moving forward.’ Into a black hole.
If he wanted to be part of a dictatorship he would have rejoined the PPPC
Ever heard of market economies and individual achievement.
Ranji Chandidingh was a humble and very approchable man even as a Vice -President.Amidst all the corruption associated with the former and present governments,no one can point a finger at Chandisingh and say that he enriched himself at the public coffers.Whatever his reason for switching parties, the fact remains that he served with dedication and loyalty motivated by a feeling of patriotism more than anything else. How many people did not think at the time that the PPP was just a voice crying in the wilderness, with no hope of ever returning to power? And why do we keep forgeting about the “critical support” of the PPP with respect to Burnham’s policies? As far as his socialist leanings go,history is still to judge whether socialism or capitalism will lead to the ultimate impoverishment of planet earth.Witness the chaos of the world’s economy and Obama’s effort to control the banks and the automobole companies!
The PPP supporters will cry and moan that he did nothing and the PNC will always be blamed for the economy. Let the truth be told about who RC was. It is a GREAT pity that RC did not say why he split with the PPP. There is this misguided sense of ‘birds of a feather’ with ALL politicians ACROSS THE BOARD IN GUYANA that is to the detriment of Guyana, even Eusi is not exempted. PPP will NEVER say the truth behind the split and the PNC will NEVER say anything either and the ‘ignorant’ public will continue to condemn him without knowing anything other than Burnham and Jagan. Before the split Ranji warned Dr. P Singh of what was to come [to him,,, PSingh] but alas his advise was not heeded which led to Dr. P S splitting with the PPP also.
The silent observer.
