Dear  Editor,

I have been reading in the newspapers that streets will be repaired and old vehicles, etc, and illegal structures removed. This tune has been playing since Mr Nawbatt was Minister, and now Mr Benn. They are talking only about Georgetown, but what about the rural areas? I live in Dundee, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara. I have bought some stuff to carry out repairs to my house, but the trucks refuse to bring it in because there are terrible trenches at the head of the street as well as old chassis, old trucks and snackettes  causing obstructions. There is also a school in the same street, and it is chaos when Novar school is dismissed. The children flock around the stalls thus preventing vehicles from driving freely.

In addition, there is a man who has an off-licence liquor shop, while his son has a barber shop on the government reserve. My children cannot study in the night because of the noise and cursing by the customers. Off-licences as I know them are for buying liquor and taking it away, but people drink the whole day until late at night. I wonder what the GRA is doing. The hair from the barber’s shop gets into my house. I reported to the public health body but it was no use.  We need someone to take some steps to repair the street,  remove old trucks, chassis, stalls, barber shop, etc, and ensure there is some reconstruction of the liquor shop, so traffic can flow freely.  The stallholders could be located in the schoolyard, I suggest; it has a lot of space.

Yours faithfully,
Narine

Come 2011 you will dutifully go out and vote for the “Cup”. Elections have consequences and now you must live with them. There is no evidence however that this is the case. The only Guyanese of Indian descent who constantly takes on this Government is Freddie Kissoon. The tepid criticism of others is totally ineffectual.
