Dear Editor,
The MMA/ADA Board has no rice farmers other than Mr Seeraj, the General Secretary of the Guyana Rice Producers Association. We need rice farmers on the board to champion our cause. The MMA/ADA project phase (1) Abary should have two farmers – one from Mahaica and one from Mahaicony.

Mr Seeraj cannot represent us alone; he is a government MP and the MMA/ADA is a government holding. It also has Mr Hari Narine Baldeo the Chairman of Region 5 and a government MP as a member of the board.

Yours faithfully,
Rudolph Singh

  1. Satish UNITED KINGDOM says:

The Government is doing some good things to empower farming with Dr Ashni Singh informing us recently about a new package of stimuli, however it is essential that the MMA/ADA Board have formal representatives from the rice farming industry to give a ‘rice-farmer perspective’.

1 Guyana rice earned US$118 million in 2008.
2 Guyana rice production in 2008 was 329,574 tons.
3 Guyana was able to export 70% of its rice production and is now the 13th largest exporter in the world.

RICE FARMING SHOULD BE A TOP PRIORITY FOR THE GOVERNMENT AND IS SO IMPORTANT THAT NOTHING SHOULD BE LEFT TO CHANCE.
We need rice farmers on the board to champion improvements.

  2. Brandon Samaroo (End the PPP Dictatorship Now!) UNITED STATES says:

Satish give me a break the government is doing good things to empower farming? what hogwash is this?

You need to go and talk to people like Jinna and see first hand how the government is killing farmers in Guyana.

Why does the GRDB have to purchase paddy and resell it to farmers at twice the cost? explain that to me?

Did the government do great by farmers when they ignored the advice of farmers who told them that the MMA river were badly silted and they needed to be dredged? Please you are soundling like a ppp apologist now.

The PPP has done nothing for farmers and farming in Guyana lets be clear the little they have been doing is chicken feed.

This government prefers to give loans to buddys to be repaid by hotel rooms free at cost to the government. Show me which farmer in Guyana received that kind of assistance from the PPP to date?

Wake up people wake the hell up.
