Dear Editor,
I protest the torture of my fellow citizens and in particular of this 14 year old boy by brutes and bullies who masquerade as Police.
I protest this barbaric Government that allows torture to be done in my name by offering rewards to solve crimes. This only encourages these brutes to torture detainees to elicit confessions.
I protest that these “rogue” policemen have not been named. Why are they being protected? They are criminals and the Police were never shy of publishing names of persons who they believed fitted that description.
I protest that the parents, lawyers and the media were denied access to this child in the lock-ups for four days. Poor child, he must have been terrified beyond words.
As never before the Police, the Army, the Coast Guard and CANU are in desperate need of reform and training and to think this Government gave up millions of dollars on the pretext of Guyana’s sovereignty. Just who are they trying to fool? It boggles the mind and this foolishness has to stop.
Yours faithfully,
Rachel Hibbin

The PPP created a political monster in the president, who created and nurtured a political culture to help him govern, and this is the result of that process. Torture was seen as a weapon, the same way gunning down criminals and suspects was seen as a weapon. Government has no respect for law and order and no need for the justice system; it does its own thing as it sees fit.
Does anyone out there think these police men acted without orders from ‘upstairs’? Hey, this is what happens when you pay cops millions for killing criminals and suspects rather than bring suspects to justice: cops take matters into their own hands as they become the law!
i agree .in all instances names of persons and places should be made public
I second this. The Commander in Chief of the Guyana Defence
Force is still to name the men that is heading the torturing
squad at Camp Ayanganna after 2 long long years.
I agree with the writer, the pretex of sovereignty shouldn’t be an excuse to prevent police reform.
If you want the names of the police officers responsible for this crime get a list of the names of all the police working at the Lenora Police Station. Those would be who are responsible for this crime.
The same happened with the rogue intelligence officers in the GDF intelligence arm only to be exposed as PPP people….maybe we have a similar situation here.
ask sn why they can’t publish the names of these rogue officers.
