Dear Editor,
The brutality meted out to a child while in custody of the Guyana Police Force as reported in the print media shows the level of depravity in sections of our disciplined services. We, the members of the Pattensen Community Development Council (PCDC) condemn the actions of the officers who participated in this brutality and who sought to cover up.
We call on the Government to ensure that the child receives all the medical attention which is needed and any other support to recover from this traumatic incident.
The PCDC is a partner in the Pickney Project. We were happy to host officers of the Guyana Police Force in March 2009 at a training workshop on Child Protection. We believe that the leadership of the Guyana Police Force should recognize the efforts of those who are ensuring that children who come into contact with law enforcement agencies are treated humanely.
We however note the fact that a picture was taken and presented in the public from that seemingly inhumane environment where the person(s) responsible were involved in that brutish and despicable behavior. It means someone(s) with integrity and a heart for justice was present there. We salute those who did the ‘right’ thing in making that picture available, he/she/they are the bastions of the nation’s hope and trust in our Police Force.
Yours faithfully,
PCDC Executive:
O. Ellis,
C. Marks,
M. Moore,
C. Patterson,
S. Ogle

From the signatures, I am making the assumption that the PCDC is mainly Afro-Guyanese. I am waiting eagerly to hearing from the East Indian organisations, religious or civic. Doesn’t torture cross religious, ethnic boundaries? Where are they?
Silence means consent. Seems like the wrongs done under the PPP watch are greeted with silence. So they keep on moving from one fiasco to another. THE SILENCE IS DEFEANING!!!!
And the silence from the President is resounding!
I support this well written letter and it’s demands.
The question still remains; why is this child still under the control of the state’s police when he has not been charged and why is he not being affored medical attention at a private hospital at the PPP’s expense.
I totally agrees with you on this blog. That baby should not be guarded by any foolice as far as I am concerned because I am 100% positive that he did not committ this crime. I am so happy that a picture was reveiled and that is the honest truth.
This incident should not have a race, colour nor creed because we are all one race and that is the Human-Race so whom ever took the picture and leaked it to the media, thank you so much for showing that you are concerned about what had happened to this baby.I cannot imagine that the fresident did not make an appearance regarding this heinous crime that took place in the foolice-station, come on now but him in a private hospital or send him abroad to seek medical attention. I do hope that they Sue the foolice department and the foolicemen that committed this heinous act for everything they own and I mean that from the bottom of my heart.
What happened to the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha, the Indian arrival committee, where is Ravi Dev on this and Vishnu Bisrum, and the Christian churches.I need to hear from you all.
RDMAN,
i ask that question days ago but still nothing then i said this lad is a sacrifice and i got jumped on but what else could it be? Do you have to calculate how to respond to torture? A reaction to torture should be involuntary but i Guess RAVI can only write about Ethnic Security Dilemma week after week after week. I would be happy for him to tell us how his Theory is playing out now.
I would have expected RAVI as a Indian Activist to come out and denounce this “OUTER LIMIT” response. Even in his sunday column i was expecting him to address this issue… Be a man Ravi say something and take your beating if you have to, we are all Guyanese and we all get a mouth licking from time to time.
That picture was nothing less than a life-saver.
I am normally a critic of KN’s sensationalism but budday, this time I happily eat my words!
You are a man of integrity.
I applaud the responsible persons for showing this…who didn’t know before will finally take a look at this country to see the direction it’s moving in. If this picture didn’t move you, then you have ice running in your veins. All the parents of a 14/15 year old should have been picketing out there. Who in their right mind would do such a thing and to a minor at that. The UN will deal with this. Why Guyana has to be famous for crap like this?
….and a copy of KN thrown in! Fanx SKY, but I’m a girl. The late EL Dorado could have attested to that!
I have a picture of a very high ranking Guyanese in a very compromising position, it was taken out in Maryland by the other partner. Anyone interested?
Just post the thing on FB…..or u-tube. Don’t know that
U-tube is the new Police of the World. Put it right there Vijay Singh
