Dear Editor,
For a few days a dead dog lay (on the grassy area) at the corner of Middle and Waterloo Streets opposite the Promenade Gardens. I was told about it on November 2/09 around 5pm. The next morning I went by the area and saw the dog swollen ready to burst. I wonder how many people passed, saw it but took no action for the animal to be removed, eg all that is required is a call to Solid Waste Management at 223-5123 giving them the correct location.
I did not have my cell phone at the time so I made my way to the office at the Promenade Gardens and asked the person in charge to make a call to the solid waste dept. I spoke with Mr Ishreee, told him the urgency of the situation and sure enough within a few hours the dog was picked up. It seems we have a lot of people in Guyana who don’t care enough to take action. Do they think by just complaining the problem would go away?
I remember not too long ago in the middle of the intersection of Camp and New Market Streets a dog died. Vehicles were driving around it. I stopped my car put on a pair of disposables gloves and moved it to the side of the road then proceeded to call Solid Waste Management.
Please remember that Solid Waste Management does not have eyes and ears everywhere so we have to remember to make that call ( telephone #223-5123) when we see dead animals on the road.
Help keep our city clean, do the right thing!!
Yours faithfully,
Syeada Manbodh

Syeada, for all you know, Solid Waste Management itself might have passed by and saw that dead dog there, and kept on going. These days it seems to me that some people are just comfortable with dirty surroundings.
Uh-Uh,I disagree with you.
Ms. Manbodh is correct.
At times I’ve called Mr. Ishree at SWM for similar issues and he has responded quickly and conscientiously.
Georgetown needs more people like him.[This comment is unsolicited].[Mr. Mayor-take heed].
But getting to him on the phone is not an easy task, for whoever answers the phone ain’t easy!
This is good news ….. make use of it. Good for tourism.
call who if yuh see a living stray dog on the road?
SN where is my comment about the solid waste i passed by the Office of the president that needs cleaning up? come on man what is the matter with you chaps this is serious stuff……..

how about the dead weight anybady checkin pun dem?
Dead dogs lying all over the place is a typical sign of a backward thinking society. No wonder they treat humans similarly. When my dogs die I bury them in my backyard.
