Dear Editor,
Lawmakers and law enforcers have become a law unto themselves. They answer only to each other. They have fostered a mutual protection arrangement, where the overarching motto is: by any means necessary. Recent history provides ample testimony on this near total disregard for law and society. Here are some examples ranging from the depraved to the deadly.
A drunken brawl involving a two-sided dispute over a triangle resulted in the force of guns, and the forced birth of family. This petered out into an “internal matter.” Drag racing deaths are obliterated to the ignominy of an out of court settlement. Other operas involving guiding lights about scams, corruption, and assorted assaults on society’s consciousness have all been first stonewalled, then submerged out of existence. This has become the norm, almost a sub-culture by itself. Enforcers of the law observed-or participated in-these shenanigans and realized that the coast was clear and that it was now open season to imitate the masters, and even to anticipate what would be pleasing to them.
The coast was clear to uphold the banner of law and order using any means necessary. It was only a matter of time before the occasional justifiable use of deadly force metamorphosed, through bullets and bodies, into borderline killings, suspicious killings, mysterious executions, and plain murder. Any means necessary now brought the nation to the landscape of the ultimate. One littered with boulders destructive and immovable.
Boulders of shakedowns (tapes); torture (Consular court transcripts); and more murder (Coast Guard); boulders best exemplified by the disbanding of a so-called crack unit now out of uniform and running downhill at the behest of the usual bidders.
By any means necessary is the official stonewall that is partly dissembling, mostly obfuscation, and conveniently silent, as appropriate. The Praetorian Guards must be insulated for they have seen the senators unrobed, and know the location of telltale marks (and skeletons). These disciples of the devil who have done dirty deeds must be protected from the heat coming down. It is why there is the compartmentalization of barbarity through a growing vocabulary of its own: known characters, rogue elements, waiting on the DPP.
By any means necessary is to protect the status quo, to enrich, to cover-up, to derail. Even to kill. It works for this deadly duet embraced in a danse macabre, to the detriment of larger society. Steps of malfeasance form a dance of depravity, which has become a swirl of criminality. The bad news is that this has become so intricately enmeshed as to be almost inextricable and near insoluble. There is a sense of pervasive contamination at the internal level; and there is the verdict handed down to prearranged external tentacles. There is the fact that both internal and external, and state and paramilitary, now hold us hostage and on our knees. Such are the fruits of by any means necessary. In the midst of all of this, what is all this excitement over a little torture?
Yours faithfully,
GHK Lall

Well we voted for it.
colin2nice, in all fairness to the electorates, the opposition leaves a lot to be desired. The government is only as good as the opposition.
The opposition needs to create TRUST in the minds of the electorates. Surely you do not expect them to vote for Mr. Corbin.
The opposition is toothless but this has been made even more so because the PPP has embraced the Burnhamite constitution and now has no shame about which it carries out the business of the people even if it means associating with drug dealers etc.
Let us be careful about taunting the PNC and call them toothless remmeber the last time the had teeth? do you want that kind of teeth in the streets of Georgetown?
Who knows maybe that is the only kind of teeth that will get this government’s attention. The question is will it drive the electorate to re-elect these donuts yet again.
….why u lyin ? hoo is dis ‘we’ yuh talking bout ,, anytime u vote PPP pnc back in powah…. gwan suh yuh too nice aredi….
GHK Lall – I love your prose but I have a couple more words you can add to the growing vocabulary of the shameless PPP/Jagdeo government and their paid apologists; “intellectual authors” and the always reliable, “terrorist/terrorism.”
To further stoke ethnic fear and aapan jat, you can expect to see the word terrorism tossed around liberally to cow their supporters into turning a blind eye to the excesses of this regime.
GHK Lall, for the PPP it is power at all cost, and “the end justifies the means”.
PPP failed to learn the lessons of Burnhame, they think they will be in powah forevah.
Not gonna happen boys, not gonna happen. All good things must come to an end.
Who dont know that “anything goes” in Guyana is not living in Guyana or are out of touch with whats happening in Guyana.
There are two systems in Guyana.
1)there is the right channel which takes for ever.
2)there is the fast route where you pass a raise and you jump the cue.
Positions and authority is power in Guyana, and the ones in positions and have authority are some of the biggest law breakers. There are the ones that accept monies and gift for doing a favor, or getting something done.
